2018 South Africa: Cols of Garden Route: 23 Oct - 3 Nov

This tour, mainly on gravel roads, explores a quiet area north-east of George, to the east of Cape Town. Experience the best of the Garden Route and the Karoo. Fascinating mountain passes and landscapes of rolling hills, indigenous forest and farm lands make this tour an unforgettable adventure. A couple of nights in Cape Town to start, giving you the opportunity to go up Table Mountain, visit Robben Island, Kirstenbosch, etc.

One of the great things about South Africa is the ease with which you become remote from traffic and tourists.  The scenery, the wildlife and the people in remote places are what makes for a great cycling experience. The unused dirt roads and the hidden gems of accommodation such as Rooiberg Lodge and Eight Bells Hotel (a bell is sounded at 4 pm for tea and cakes!) mean that sometimes there has to be a choice of cycling options and most of us will be shuttled for some of the way when it gets hot in the afternoon. Those wanting more of a challenge can cycle it all, a cool beer is awaiting at the end. Enjoy a local wine or a beer at Rooiberg after a swim and then watch the game come down to the lake to drink in the twilight.
